Be The One!

We interact with hundreds of people each day, some directly and some indirectly. Some of our interactions may be with people we are close to, such as with our family. Others may be with people we don’t even know, such as the other drivers on the freeway. Out of those hundreds of interactions, probably only a few shape our mood and the impression of our day. Maybe it was a kind word that a coworker said to us that lifted us up and made us happy. Maybe it was the frustrating conversation on the phone or the person who cut us off on the drive home that made us angry and colored our view of the day.

Realizing the power that one individual can have over us should make us stop and think. It’s easy to accept the positive reinforcement we get. It’s much harder to let the negative vibes go, to not allow the one bad moment to outweigh the good and to let it have control over us.

More importantly, we need to realize that WE are the other person in someone else’s life today. We are the one who will determine how they feel today and how they will, in turn, treat others. We should commit to “Be The One” for others, to be the person that lifts them up and helps them to make it through the day. You might put a sticky note saying “BE THE ONE” or some other reminder wherever you need it, on your phone, your computer, your car, or wherever you face the greatest challenge in being the emissary of God to others. You may find that, as you bless others, you in turn will be equally blessed.

“Live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing” (1 Pt 3:8-9).
