Guidance
What would you do if you saw someone walk into the street in front of an oncoming car? I’m sure you’d want to warn them. It wouldn’t be a quiet, “Excuse me, but I think you should get out of the way before you’re run over”. You’d most likely yell, “Look out!”.
God loves us more than we can even comprehend. He wants only the best for us. His love demands that He try to reach out to us if we are going off in the wrong direction. Sometimes that may be in a quiet voice, other times it might be “Look out!”. If we are feeling a sense of disquiet or a lack of peace in our lives, we would be well-served to pray about it, to ask God whether He is trying to lead us in a different direction. “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it’” (Isa 30:21).
I’m a very direct person, which is to say that I can’t take a hint. I told my wife long ago that if she wanted to tell me something, she needed to just come out and tell me because if she tried dropping hints I would never get it. Because of this, God tends to be more direct in dealing with me than with others, not because I’m holy but because I’m clueless. I have found that, when I’m considering what to do, I will often get the same message in my Bible reading, the sermon at church, and in circumstances that occur. I also will feel peace when I start off in the right direction and, at times, an unease if I start off in the wrong direction. That’s how things work for me. How God works with you will be different because He knows the person that you are and how best to reach you, but you should have the expectation that God wants to lead you in the way that leads to your greatest peace and fulfillment.
Thank God for His love and guidance, ask Him to show you the way, and be willing to go where He leads you.
