Leftovers

What would you do if the governor or your future in-laws or some other important people agreed to come to your house for dinner?  I suspect you would clean the house until it shone, put out your best china, and fix a fancy meal. Imagine how they would feel if you served them leftovers from last night’s dinner instead!  Even if the food was very good, the implication would be that you didn’t think enough about them to give them your best.

Unfortunately this is exactly what many Christians do with God. He is deserving of all the best they have to offer but they give Him the leftovers of their lives.  They give Him what time they have left over after they finish doing the things they enjoy and give Him what money they have left over after they pay for their big house, fancy cars and other things they want.  God deserves to be our highest priority, otherwise we have elevated whatever is above Him on the priority list to the status of our god.

We need to put God first in our lives. Everything that we have comes from Him. When we give Him our “leftover” time or our “leftover” resources, we may feel like we are honoring Him but God likely doesn’t see it the same way. We should from time to time examine our priorities in life and look at our heart and our reason for giving.

I believe that I am “preaching to the choir” today. I suspect that most, if not all, of my readers have already put God first in their lives. Still, I think this is the message I am supposed to give. Perhaps someone needs to pass it on to others. See if the Spirit leads you in this regard.
