Headlights

When you are driving at night, you don’t need your headlights to illuminate the road a mile ahead. You just need to be able to see far enough in front of you to be able to safely drive on. Only being able to see a little bit of our surroundings might actually be a good thing. It makes it easier for us to focus on our driving without being distracted by things off to the side of the road or far in the distance.

Sometimes we expect too much from God. We want Him to light the way for as far off into the future as we can imagine. When it is important for our life’s path, He may show us a glimpse of things far off. Many times, though, He just gives us enough guidance to see the way that we should go for this current day. Just as we ask Him to give us each day our daily bread, we can ask Him to give us each day our daily direction. His Spirit will guide us and keep us from going astray.

“I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them” (Isa 42:16).
