Caring For Your Armor

My father-in-law was meticulous in caring for his tools.  Everything was clean, sharp, in perfect condition, and put in its proper place.  When he passed away, we inherited some of his tools. I have always given them special attention, in his honor.

Paul wrote to the Ephesians, “Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Eph 6:11).  Our armor includes “the belt of truth…..the breastplate of righteousness,,,,, feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace…..the shield of faith,,,,, the helmet of salvation….. and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Eph 6:14-17).

We have received the armor of God for our defense.  We need to put on the full armor or we will be vulnerable to attack at our weakest unguarded place. It is our responsibility to keep our armor in good condition.

How do we put on and care for our armor?

1.       Strive for truth and honesty in all our words and actions. We should be fair and just in our dealings with others and have a desire for justice in the world around us.

2.       Strive for purity in our hearts, turning away from the lures of a sinful world.

3.       Be open to God’s peace in our hearts and not let anyone or anything take it from us.

4.       Daily place our lives in God’s hands. Pray frequently.

5.       Live in hope for the salvation that has been won for us, putting a priority on building up the kingdom of God.

6.       Regularly spend time in the Scriptures.

As a soldier does not fight alone but depends on his fellow soldiers, we should also make it a point to be in fellowship with other Christians, supporting them and receiving their support.

We are only touching the surface of this topic. There are many online resources available for those of you who desire additional study. Here are a few:
