Look Beyond Yourself
I remember going shopping when our daughter was just a toddler. She was enthralled by the 180 degree mirrors in the clothing section of the department store. I suspect we could have left her there for an hour and she wouldn’t even have noticed.
Our leaders, and society at large, are promoting a
360 degree mirror view of the world. Whichever way you look, all you see is
your own reflection. Whatever problem you look at, whatever people are affected,
all that matters is how it affects you. You don’t see beyond the mirror to
anyone else.
As Christians, we must reject this
self-centeredness. We are called to be people of compassion, caring for others,
especially those with the greatest need. We don’t wall ourselves off. Rather,
we remove any obstacle that separates us from those we are called to love and
serve. We are called to BE the mirror, reflecting the light of Christ into the
darkness. “But we all, with
unveiled faces, looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord, are being
transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the
Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Let’s pray for
revival in our land, a revival that takes the life and words of Jesus out from
the sanctuary and into the streets. Let’s show God’s love to the world by living
it out each and every day, as the apostle Paul encourages us.
