Pray for More Daniels
I’m currently in the Book of Daniel in my daily
bible study. Daniel led an amazing life. Carried off to Babylon as a young man,
he rose to become one of the leaders of the Babylonian empire. When the Medes
conquered Babylon, they thought so highly of Daniel that they continued his
position in authority. He is a shining example of faithfulness, first to God
and also to the people he served. There are many examples of his devotion to
God and to His will. On his arrival in Babylon, Daniel refused to eat the
king’s food because it would have violated the dietary laws God gave to the
Israelites. Daniel had to speak God’s word of judgment to both King
Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar when doing so could have cost him dearly. He continued
to pray to God even though the king ordered that anyone who did so would be
thrown into the lion’s den. Daniel never glorified himself, always giving
credit to God for whatever he was able to do. In return, God protected him,
blessed his work, and prospered him.
These are difficult times. Every day we see and hear
reports of callous disregard of the God-given dignity of each person, leading
to suffering and death. The gods of money and power are worshiped and those who
are not willing to compromise their beliefs can find their positions and even
their personal safety threatened. Our world needs an infusion of God’s love,
Word, and will through the working of His people.
Pray that God might send more modern-day Daniels,
men and women whose first and foremost desire is to serve God in whatever
circumstances they find themselves. May they be willing to say and do what is
right regardless of the consequences. May God bless their work as He did
Daniel’s. May He place them in responsible positions in government, both in our
country and around the world, as well as the business world and society as a
whole. Let their faithful service give witness to God and advance His work on
earth. Ask those you know to pray as well, for the earnest prayer of God’s
people will have its effect. Finally, wherever you are, whatever you do,
resolve to be like Daniel, to speak the truth, to serve humbly and faithfully
in God’s name, trusting in Him as the source of your help.
Read the Book of Daniel and be inspired by his life.
“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers,
intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in
authority, that we may lead peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and
holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be
saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
