Do It God's Way

Somehow or other, a recent conversation I was in got around to having regrets. Any time I hear the word regrets, I immediately think about “My Way”, the song popularized by Frank Sinatra. The song is about someone looking back on his life, saying, “Regrets, I've had a few, But then again, too few to mention”. He doesn’t have many regrets because “I did it my way”.

Now, like most people, I have a few regrets when I look back at my life. For me, though, my regrets are usually because I did it my way, instead of doing it God’s way. Even though I know that God’s way is the best, if not the most direct, way, I sometimes still try to get away with doing it my way and asking God to bless it.

The Bible has many examples of people who didn’t trust in God’s way. When the Israelites were in the desert, God desired to give them the land of Canaan. They refused to go to battle to win it, because they were afraid of the people living there and didn’t trust God to give them the victory. As a result, God told them that they would have to wander in the desert for 40 years. When they heard this, they decided to attack even though God told them He would no longer be with them if they did. They suffered a great defeat and the survivors began their long sentence in the desert. The consequences of insisting on doing it their way and refusing God’s way couldn’t be undone.

God tells us, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways…..As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9). We know this and we believe it, but sometimes we fail to trust in Him or trust that we are really hearing His message to us.

We should always be in the habit of seeking God’s way and being open to letting Him lead us. If you want more on this topic, see my post on Seeking God’s Will at https://www.blogger.com/u/2/blog/post/edit/5174283115616278386/6744010548788924546
